What a flat final frontier

Space. The final frontier.

As a little kid, space was always something that really interested me. It really got me thinking too, about how small we really are and whether or not we were really alone. Space seems like a void but in reality, there’s so much more to it.

I started out with the sun and really wanted to play around with flat design. After the sun, I went in order of the planets. I think making Jupiter was one of my favorites mainly because of how much fun I had playing around with the Pen Tool and making all those weird and irregular shapes. Lastly, I learned a lot about how clipping masks work and how useful they are when “cropping”.

In terms of most difficulty, it had to be Saturn. Saturn’s were way more complex than Uranus’ rings solely because of Saturn’s slant. I had to split it into four parts where are Uranus only required 2. The light and dark and the foreground and background aspects of the rings were how they were divided. I also wanted to make sure that the order of the planets was not too one-sided or heavy.

Overall, the project was fun to do in terms of getting down to the details and the importance of scalability.

Side note: I was going to include Pluto (BECAUSE I GREW UP WITH NINE PLANETS. NINE.). Unfortunately, the image was getting too wide and the only way to accommodate would be to shrink the other planets. If I shrank them anymore, none of the details that I worked on for the other planets would be seen. SORRY PLUTO.
